Thorazine

Thorazine antipsychotic drug was approved for schizophrenia treatment and other psychoses. Indications for Thorazine were not for the treatment of anxiety, loss of mental abilities in nonpsychotic patients, for sedation, or to control restless behavior. One of the most important Thorazine warnings is the link between Thorazine and
Tardive Dyskinesia. If alternate treatment cannot be sought, Thorazine use should be closely monitored, especially since some Thorazine side effects like Tardive Dyskinesia can be permanent.

Other Thorazine side effects can be very serious. In addition to the Tardive Dyskinesia, cases of drug induced parkinsonism, akathisia, akinesia, and other adverse effects can occur. Thorazine use can also mask symptoms of brain tumor, intestinal blockage, changes in pigmentation, and a neurological condition called Reye’s syndrome. One of the most widely known phenothiazine neuroleptics, Thorazine has caused adverse effects when discontinuing Thorazine use. Patients with cardiovascular, liver, or renal disease should use Thorazine with extreme caution as it has been shown that these Thorazine patients have an increased sensitivity to the CNS effects of Thorazine.

It is always important to consult your doctor if any Thorazine prescription changes are made. Reports of stomach inflammation, dizziness, vomiting, nausea, and tremors have been suffered as the result of discontinuing Thorazine.
