PhenergenPhenergen is used as an antihistamine and anti-nausea medication. Phenergen is also linked to Tardive Dyskinesia because of its neuroleptic like effects that it has on patients. Tardive Dyskinesia is a syndrome that is still very unknown. Tardive Dyskinesia has been found to be linked to the use of neuroleptic (antipsychotic) drugs, with a higher prevalence occurring with elderly patients. In 2001, labeling changes were made to Phenergen to alert Phenergen patients of “Geriatric Use” distinctions. Due to the lack of clinical studies for Phenergen patients ages 65 and older, elderly Phenergen patient response may differ from younger subjects. The Phenergen labeling change was intended to alert patients that potential for adverse Phenergen effects could occur in elders and to remain cautious of the risks. Due to the potentially deadly Phenergen side effects that can occur, it is advised to first seek a safer alternate treatment when possible. Other Phenergen side effects can include a fatal case of decreased breathing function. Especially in patients that have breathing problems to begin with, Phenergen may not be a safe treatment option. Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome is a potentially deadly symptom complex reported with antipsychotic drugs, and also linked to Phenergen. High-risk patients for suffering Phenergen side effects include people suffering heart disease, high blood pressure or circulatory problems, liver problems, narrow-angle glaucoma, peptic ulcer or other abdominal obstructions, or urinary bladder obstruction due to an enlarged prostate. Patients suffering these symptoms should be especially cautious about considering Phenergen treatment. For more information on Phenergen contact us to confer with a Phenergen lawyer.
