CompazineCompazine antipsychotic has dangerous and serious side effects associated to its use. Prescribed for the treatment of schizophrenia, Compazine has been linked to Tardive Dyskinesia and neuroleptic malignant syndrome. These two Compazine adverse effects have been linked to all antipsychotics and can become permanent and deadly. Tardive Dyskinesia is a Compazine risk that can result in potentially irreversible and involuntary dyskinetic movements. All antipsychotics carry the risk of suffering Tardive Dyskinesia but in the past it was only associated to long-term use of antipsychotic treatment. Now, a lot of controversy has surrounded the use of antipsychotics like Compazine because instances of Tardive Dyskinesia have been reported in patients using the antipsychotic medication for just a couple months. Even if Compazine and antipsychotic use is discontinued, Tardive Dyskinesia can still occur. It is still unknown why Tardive Dyskinesia occurs with Compazine and other antipsychotic drug use, but the disorder has been suffered especially amongst elderly patients, with even more prevalence amongst elderly women. Atypical antipsychotics were believed to be a newer, safer introduction of schizophrenia treatment, but Tardive Dyskinesia continues to be a risk amongst all antipsychotics and it is still unknown if a particular antipsychotic product carries greater risk of Tardive Dyskinesia than others. Compazine patients have also reported fatal cases of Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS). Another side effect of antipsychotics as a whole, both NMS and Tardive Dyskinesia has the difficult task of being able to identify and then properly diagnose the conditions. The difficulty in Compazine patients to recognize early Compazine side effect indicators and the difficulty of properly diagnosing conditions associated to Compazine use has allowed patients to suffer. Until patients are able to better recognize early warning signs of Compazine side effects and researchers are able to learn more information about treating disorders like Tardive Dyskinesia and NMS, all potential Compazine patients should be thoroughly evaluated to weigh the risks and benefits of the schizophrenia treatment.
